Diving In The Caribbean On Bequia Island (With Video)

When we were very first planning our trip to the Grenadines, I understood that I wished to get under the water as well as check out the Caribbean Sea on scuba. After my outstanding dives in Belize, I was truly looking ahead to donning my mask as well as regulator to inspect out some much more of this well-known underwater world.

I looked on TripAdvisor for the very best dive shop on Bequia, as well as was amazed to discover out that there are only two on the entire island. I checked out up on them both and, with a bit bit of research, it was apparent that Dive Bequia was the shop to go with. I rang them up, booked my dives as well as readied myself for some much more underwater exploration!

When I shown up at the dive shop I was welcomed by an American trainer named Morgan. He showed me around the shop as well as provided me a great rundown of the dive sites in the area. He likewise introduced me to Charlie, the dive shop’s Parrot. Charlie doesn’t like to dive, however he likes to hang out with the divers as well as talk about fish. He likewise has a bit of a filthy mouth however that’s since he grew up at a beach bar.

After a quick dry refresher (reminder lesson on land), Morgan as well as the team took me as well as a few other people out on our very first dive. The team assisted us with our devices as well as made sure whatever was in purchase before we dropped off the boat as well as into the crystal remove Caribbean waters.

Our very first dive was at Stratmann Wreck which sits just a few hundred meters off the shores of Admiralty bay. This old tug boat sunk right here in 2003 as well as today she sits upright in about 18 meters of water. Slipper lobster as well as french angelfish were congregating around the propeller, while shoals of barracuda patrolled the outer perimeter of the site. small found eels manned the helm, inquisitively poking their heads out the front window as we swam by.

After about 15 minutes checking out the coral-crusted nooks as well as crannies of the Stratmann, we headed for Devil’s Table, a rocky reef with deep valleys as well as towering boulders. large flat plateaus broke up the cracked underwater landscapes as well as I found a few trumpet fish as well as a lone found moray eel on the sandy seafloor.

As we concerned the surface after that very first dive I was prepared to begin another! Unfortunately, that was the last dive of the day as well as I’d have to wait up until the next day to head back out.

The following morning I woke up early as well as headed for the dive shop, excited to get back into the water. My gear was waiting on me, as was Morgan as well as two other divers from the UK. We had one more rundown as well as then headed out on the boat.

My second dive was at Moon hole as well as while it wasn’t rather as interesting as the Stratmann, the rich as well as healthy sea life was mesmerizing. While Morgan was assisting the other two divers get comfortable, I lazily floated over the vibrant reef, sometimes peering into small vase corals where purple Pederson shrimps had set up their short-term cleaning stations.

Hundreds of countless small blue creole wrasse clouded the visible horizon, while the vibrant colours of sponge as well as vase corals painted the seafloor below. My diving companions ran out of air a bit sooner than I had hoped, so this dive was cut a bit short. When we surfaced, the boat captain took us back to the dive shop where we hung out with Charlie as well as unwinded for about a half an hour before heading back out.

My final dive was at Robyn’s Reef, as well as I was pleased to discover out that there would be just three divers on this outing. all of us dropped into the sea as well as embarked on what was to be my preferred dive in the Grenadines. We casually drifted over a garden of impossibly vibrant corals. I curiously hovered over each azure vase as well as sometimes discovered big crabs as well as lobsters hiding in their darkened cauldrons.

The dive was spectacular as well as although there was no big sea life to be seen, I was blown away by the sheer abundance of fish as well as coral. The sluggish drifting present carefully brought us along the reef as well as the meditative inhale as well as exhale from my regulator put me into a euphoric specify of calm. This is what diving is all about!

After three dives with Dive Bequia I was craving more, however sadly I didn’t have much more days to check out the seas. The dive team was great, the boat was big as well as comfortable, as well as the owners Bob as well as Cathy were knowledgable as well as friendly. My dive instructor, Morgan, was funny as well as relaxed, yet expert as well as truly enabled me to delight in the dives at my own pace. all in all, I had an outstanding experience as well as would certainly suggest Dive Bequia for anybody wanting to dip below the surface of these amazingly diverse waters.
